Hockinson Excellence Award

This STEM memorial scholarship was created by the Hockinson Public Schools Foundation (HPSF) in honor of a local Hockinson resident who donated a large part of their estate to support Hockinson graduating seniors pursuing STEM degrees or careers. The scholarship reflects their passion and legacy for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The scholarship is called the Hockinson Excellence Award and has the following features:

  • It awards up to four $10,000 scholarships every year

  • It distributes the scholarships over four years in $2,500 increments

  • It requires applicants to meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a graduate of Hockinson High School, Class of 2024.

  • Have had a positive influence on the Hockinson High School Community.

  • Plan to attend an accredited post-graduate college, university, or trade school within 15 months of graduation.

  • Have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.

Applicant shall:

  1. Intend to study in the STEM fields, with a preference for Engineering or Surveying.

  2. Have and maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher during HHS matriculation.

  3. Expect to complete their education within four years maximum (can be shorter than four years, in which case the funds would be distributed in larger sums over fewer increments.)

  4. Expect to complete their education within the State of Washington, i.e., students who will attend colleges and universities in another State are not eligible.

  5. Intend to return to Clark County, WA, for employment - it is accepted that this might not always be possible, but the applicant shall strive to do so.

  6. Submit a 500-word essay describing the intended field of study, career goals, and reasons for choosing that field.

  7. Submit a list of all extra-curricular and community service activities detailing how long the applicant has engaged in each activity and any honors or awards received.

Additionally, due to the multi-year nature of this scholarship, the winners will further agree to the following as a renewal criterion.

  1. Before the start of each school year, at least two weeks before the tuition due date, a. Provide all necessary information including but not limited to a student ID number, other appropriate identifiers, changes in contact information for both student and the school that would allow the Foundation to be able to communicate with the institution to submit funds to student’s account. b. Provide current contact information, including phone numbers and email addresses, of the institution where the Foundation can submit the funds to the student’s account. Failure to provide all of the necessary information will result in delay or perhaps nonpayment by the Foundation of current and future scholarship money.

  2. At the end of each school year, within two weeks after the publication of grades, submit a copy of unofficial transcript to the Hockinson Public Schools Foundation.
