I recently built:

core i7 920 D0
EVGA X58 SLI LE mobo
6GB OCZ Gold 8-8-8-24 16000MHz DDR3 triple channel
3 x 1TB WD Green in RAID 5
2 x XFX 9800GT
All settings and build specs have been checked and double checked, temps run cool to acceptable (CPU yet to go abouve 33)

It is all in a HAF 935 full tower case.

Running Win7

I am getting an issue where I get random freezes in various programs (including task manager). The window will actually go grey/watermark, but there is no increased or odd activity in Task manager.

I have tried a lot of stuff, including installing PC Optimizer.

All of my drivers are up to date.

Help?

A few questions:

1.) Are you OC'ing by manual settings?
2.) How are your temps?
3.) Run Memtest86 to determine if you have a bad stick.

How up-to-date is the bios>

PSU's can be responsible for some whacky intermittent action. Do you have lots of juice?

Not OC'ing
Flashed BIOS to current a little while back, there was a bug not letting 16000 get beyond 1066.

Temps are cool runnings:

CPU ~27 (38 on load)
GPU's ~40 (50-55 on load)
NB can run a little warm ~ 55 75 on load << This is heatsink only, I may put a fan on it.

Case is very aerated and has 2 240mm fans and another 2 120mm fans

Ran memtest, it's all good - one thing I don't get is the frequency is off by 8 MHz (792, s/b 800 at stock, no? Is this the impact of having turbo enabled?)

PSU is 850Watt Ultra Modular, running very stable and much better than expected.

I have made a couple of changes which appear to have helped a lot:

Was running an SB X-Fi (should have mentioned that), but the PCI slot is right up tight to PCIe x 16 with a GPU in it and right over the NB - so I pulled that out. This is a major flaw in the board design, as the PCIe slot is also unaccessible once the 1st GPU goes in.

I also noticed that for some, ubknown reason, NVidia 3D drivers had been enabled, so I killed those.

I'm stuck with so-so on-board sound for now, but it is running considerably better. I am looking forward to playing with the OC, as this board reputedly can get to 4.2GHz Smile If I get there, I will buy Crysis just to see it.

Thanks for the help Jar and Wrecks, I will keep you posted.

RMP, check your front doorstep! Wink

Wow Jer, I completely agree!!!!!! Although I don't think "awesomer" is a word.

Wink

Lookback, on other thing I can say is just watch your HDD for errors.

I had a WD Black 1TB eat shit 1 hr after installing Win 7. Started locking up and crashing. Ended up being a bunch of bad sectors. WD replaced for free.

Funny you should mention that, I had an error on the parity disk in the Raid 5, but I reconditioned it and all appears to be fine now.
