My computer is dying. I was playing eve and then I get a blue screen, says something about memory dump, but it is on screen for about one second so way too much to read that fast. The computer then reboots, BIOS does post beep but then I get disc boot failure. I power off and check all the connections and all seems fine, I put it all back and power up. Windows boots I run scandisc and all seems fine then it freezes up shortly after scandisc finishes. It is a full freeze. I hit the reset button. I get the boot disc failure again. I find out if I power off I can always boot but not with windows restart or with rest button. It freezes up between a minute to 10 minutes from when I log in. Seems like if I sit at the login screen and do not log in I am fine.

My theory is that the HDD is crapping out some hardware failure on me. Only with the twins I have no real extra money to be replacing hardware for fun. So I ask the mighty gurus of the HPSF. Do you think my hard drive is going crapola on me, or do you think I have some other issue, possible Application or other hardware failure.

Of all the times to fail out eh?

Have you blown all the dust out of your computer lately? Sometimes it could just be a heat issue easily cured with a can of compressed air. Worth a shot, but yeah sounds like HD.

XP or Vista?

Go into bios and make sure your HDD is the selected in the boot order. I would put CD before HDD and boot off the OS disk and go into recovery console and run chkdsk /r.

Oh, btw, you can stop windows from rebooting on blue screens so you can read the error. That code will help you in figuring out what is wrong. Tell me what OS it is and we can tell you how to disable the restarts.

Milla also speaks wisdom, clean that farker out and while you are at it, test your ram or at least pull all but one stick and see if it boots; try each. It could also be a bad power supply. Cheap ones crap out or start to give jumpy voltages especially if they get nice and dusty.

Here is what you need to do first... restart the computer and keep pressing F8 until you get the screen that lets you select safemode. After you get that I want you to select Disable automatic restart on failure. This will allow you to see the bluescreen that keeps flashing by. Once you get the bluescreen agian post it here on the forums.

Also i want you to check for an overheat issue... open the machine and check everyone component and make sure the fans are working... are there any capacitors that are bubbled up like a mountain? it sounds very much like a heat issue on the CPU or GPU as well. Generally if a HD is going out it gives one of several signs.

1. It makes a shitload of noise and runs super hard to open... notepad.... i had a machine that took 2 minutes in safemode of FULL HARD DRIVE POWER to open notepad... if your machine is at this point... shut the fucker off and leave it off until you get a new HD and can clone it over.

2. It makes alot of clicking, grinidng, etc.

3. It takes forever and a day to open random things and the harddrive never works. I wran into this yesterday on a new pc that got hit with a power surge. Hard drive crapped out... motor inside was fine but it scrambled the circuit board.

Furthermore i have to agree with the above comments. Run a chkdsk /r.

My suspecion is that you have a overheating vidcard/CPU as well. Do me a favor and get me the bluescreen and I'll be able to tell you more. Also if you wish you are free to call me anytime. I'll PM my cell number to you.

No worries mate i have a few spare HD laying around if need be i could ship one to ya.

thing froze up a few times during boot to safe mode. I need to run to a class but I will get the blue screen message later. I did blow it out when i had it oppen to check connections, the fans work but it was pretty dusty in there. I do not see anything bubbled up. will reply back again in a few

also noticed that when it fails to start in safe mode it always seems to fail at or after loading \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys maybe there is a bad cluster and that file or the one after it is in the bad cluster?
